Sorry folks - I hit the publish button instead of SAVE! I have been wandering all round the pub with my computer to try and get a good enough signal! The B & B at the moment has none at all!
As part of our entry to the Castle we were also able to have a guided tour of the nearby Argyle House, which is supposed to be the best preserved 17th Century Town House in Scotland. The young Uni. Student who took the tour and gave the commentary was delightful and really made history come alive, especially for the kids in the group.
When this tour finished, we were happy to go back to the castle and keep exploring until it closed at 6.00 pm. Then we went back to the Portcullis Restaurant, in the shadow of its walls, for another lovely, but far too large dinner.
After dinner we walked down into the old part of the town of Sterling and saw the house owned by Lord Darnley which is now a coffee shop and also many other old and mostly very dark stone buildings – not unlike Edinburgh in many ways. It was much easier walking home tonight than it had been going up Castle Hill in the morning – just as well because we were feeling rather tired.
