A Day Exploring Paris

It's amazing what a difference a 10 hour sleep can make to a pair of exhausted tourists.  This happy picture is the beginning of our second day in Paris which was mainly spent touring around on the top deck of an explorer bus that took us to all the famous Parisienne streets and bridges and beautiful buildings.

We just loved the places where several streets of lovely stone buildings with fancy lace ironwork spread out with a dramatic effect in several directions like the spokes of a wheel.  This kind of elegance shows the timeless attraction of this city.

Until much later in the day we thought that Paris had escaped modern buildings entirely, but then we discovered that the old areas of less significance have been redeveloped with mixed results, however the modern sports centre with outside walls made of grassed earth mounds was interesting.

We had lunch at a street cafe overlooking the River and also the Cathedral of Notre Dame.  This was really a "pinch me I must really be in Paris" moment and we took our time to enjoy our petite dejunier and take it all in.  We were even brave enough to say "merci" to the waiter.

The only fashions we saw that we thought we would love to bring home were small ones that would have looked lovely on a little girl we know who is soon to turn 4 - but then we probably would have had to cancel the rest of the trip to pay for them.

We actually had three meals today - breakfast at the hotel was very varied and good and they have drinks and hot chocolate, coffee and tea and nibbles available in the afternoon and evening.  So after having dinner in an extremely crowded little cafe not far from The Opera we had a drink before coming back up to our lovely room.
